V E Day Celebrations

On 8th May 1945 when the end of the war in Europe was confirmed rejoicing broke out and almost six years of blood, toils, tears and sweat could be finally relieved. The schools were closed, a parade was held around the village and within days parties for the children were organised in a number of venues around the village.

“When they had the VE Day Parties we had a parade around the village and finished up in Playfield. I was dressed as Britannia carrying a trident and a shield and marched at the head of the procession. Jim Bray cut the cake at the kiddies’ party”.
